I've all but quit fishing freshwater. Nothing against it, just doesn't really do anything for me like it used to. But saltwater, oooooohhhhhhhh how I love surf fishing in the fall. We are in southeastern NC on oak island. Mullet migrating so thick you could dam near walk across'em. Caught my personal best trout today (24") and a mess of Spanish mackerel. Trout were 18", 23" and 24". Just barely missed a citation (NC's version of TARP) by 1/4 lb on the trout and 1/2 lb on a big Spanish. Best part is caught'em all right in front of the house we're staying in.

Those specks are great!! Spanish are lots of fun, but pale in comparison from a culinary standpoint.

Speckled trout are some of the best-eating fish I've had. Sounds like you have some tasty meals in front of you!

Wow, really nice speck!

I actually love Spanish (as much as trout) if they are right out of the ocean. More than a couple days old or frozen and they get mealy.
