Seen a few post on here talking about tapping your shotguns to mount Scope /red dot and I have question for you. If your in Knoxville area who tapped your gun, I have two I want to get done one is a TriStar raptor and it has a aluminum receiver would this be a problem? The second is a 870 so it has a steel receiver so I don't suppose that would be a problem or would it. Last question for both , what rail do you use Ex. Remington 700,Savage etc, I plan on adding a Nikon Spur Red Dot or possibly a low power shotgun scope if I cannot adjust my eyes to the Red dot.

I have the Tri Star Raptor 20 gauge and if you can't get it tapped or do not want to I used sun optics dovetail adapter sm 7015 and it works great! The part is around 15 dollars I do believe! I have a Red dot mounted on mine.

There is a dovetail on your receiver with a groove, It clamps right on and holds good. I will put you some close up pictures on here.

The aluminum receiver tristar going to tough one. From my understanding alot of gunsmiths have stopped doing the aluminum receivers and a couple I hear that still do will not guarantee it because how soft the aluminum is and the recoil stress the holes and screws. I would go with the clamp on mount if it will fit. Metal receiver shouldn't be a problem. Not familiar with smiths up there but from quoted prices around here it s from $10-$25 a hole and some charge disassembly and/or reassembling. Trying asking the local gun shops or guns and gun smithing section on here. Seems someone posted not to long ago they had moved back to Knoxville.

Thanks for the replies,I did not realize the Tri star had a dovetail groove LOL. I went with the dovetail adapter and got it and the Reflex sight this week, both are mounted and hopefully the weather holds and I can get it patterned.
