Curious how many go unreported as a %? On public land, I'd guess a very small amount. Private land I would guess a significant percentage are un-reported, but really no idea and don't know of any way it could ever be verified.

I would guess higher than most think on private.
I would guess 25-50% in my area. A lot of people don't want to check a buck and it go against the limit.
They know, and account for it. That's my guess.

I would think if someone is hunting private land on a lease or by permission they would report it more often and on public land as well. Landowners shooting a doe and hanging it their barn probably less often. Someone shooting it from the road or at night, well I think we all know that answer.

Pretty sure it's quite a bit on public. I check harvest numbers almost daily and there's times I'm out that the shooting and the reported numbers don't add up.

Can't go by shots, I often hear many follow up shots in my area, too many too close together to be on different deer.

Pretty low percentage go unchecked I would think,2 percent I would think would be a stretch.Most hunters I know are pretty honest.Tag before you drag,you are supposed to tag as soon as you get to deer either on your phone or place the paper tag on deer.Taking a great risk on not checking in a deer

Its atleast 25-30% of whats checked, their chances of being caught are near or better than zero unless they cant keep their mouth shut.
I bet the amount harvested and unreported pales in comparison to the amount unrecovered.
Just this year I know of 4-5 deer not checked in by people. Take half the hunters that know of some not checked in and it adds up to a lot.

You're right! I find so many dead deer on public that I know were hit by a lazy hunter who didn't find them.
I'd say the only thing keeping people a little more honest might be that to drop off at a processor you need a TWRA check in number. I process my own, and it's definitely a lot of work. Hardly any of the other hunters I know are willing to do it.

I'd say atleast 20% in Franklin County. No way to catch these poachers over here. It doesn't take long to run the numbers up when people kill 5-6 bucks during the season.

Than you need not look far , a whole lot more folks than just your circle of buddies. With one warden for county their is less than 1% chance of folks getting checked especially if they keep their mouths shut and cameras in their pocket! The no allowance on private and laughable app check in crap is a poachers dream
I agree. I'm pretty surprised by the numbers being thrown around. Are that many people really that dishonest and dismissive of law? I'm not buying it either.

How would I know what happens outside "my circle of buddies" and why should I assume the worst of my fellow sportsman? In this thread its said that between 25% and 50% of deer are not checked in...I have no evidence thats true? Why would I assume its true? And I like the app for checking deer in...way more convenient that trying to find a market open who checks deer in.

I would bet the actual number would shock you even on public land, twra just doesn't have the manpower or presence to combat it. Hunting is basically done on the honor system the honest follow the rules the dishonest doesn't

Prob 10%. The same it's been for the past 40 years. Most folks are honest i believe. The dishonest 10% do a LOT of damage however.

The number of deer not checked and deer taken illegally probably runs close to 25-30%. It's not just road hunting, baiting, and spot lighting. You also have to consider unqualified landowners, opportunists, and even cheating on the juvenile hunts.

I'd imagine it's not nearly as many as those that don't get checked in after being hit by vehicles. That's nearly 100% ain't it?
