I did a little work on my Ruger 77/22 for the upcoming squirrel season:
17HM2 Green Mountain barrel - 16.5 inches with a 1-9 twist
Boyd thumbhole stock
Kept my Leupold 2X7 rimfire scope

I normally keep it on 4 power.....Use the higher power when trying to identify something.....Use the lower power when shooting offhand. Could easily go to a straight 4 power and not suffer.

ANY power is light years ahead of those old iron sights I started out with squirrel hunting.

I guess I walk around with the scope set on about 2.5 mostly, but do enjoy the "view" of more magnification even when it's not necessary.

Love a scoped .22 for squirrels. Started out with a 20 ga many years ago but when I got my first .22 with a scope, I was hooked. I really enjoy the stalk.
