Thoughts on what this could be?

I have just recently start digging for artifacts( on private property). I found this approximately 20" deep along with a few broken points. It appears to be maybe made out of clay pottery material, looks like a round ball was sat it down to harder and it created a small flat spot on the bottom. That's my guess not sure or what it was used for. May not be anything. Lol Thoughts?

It's an ancient native american sex stone.

Welcome to the forum!

I think it could be a nutting stone. I found a very similar one next to this just a few weeks ago, very close to where Infound this. The ball fit perfectly into the depression.

looks like you are in a really good spot.
That is a super turkeytail base in the left picture.
Mainly only finding broken points. Not sure if I am in a trash pile and should move from underneath the shelter. Really don't know enough to know what/where to dig, under or out infront.

Looks good. My yard is on a bluff overlooking a small river. Most of my finds have been shallow surface ones, the wife is objecting to me digging random holes in the backyard looking for a cache. I have a couple of outcroppings on the bluff but it is a little treacherous trying to reach them, not interested in funding her life insurance settlement yet. Post more pics as you find them.

If you are under the shelter and close to the wall just keep going down as far as you can. You would be amazed at how deep some of these sites are. If you are in good looking dirt, dark and maybe finding ashes you may find something really good.
Keep us posted to how you are doing.

My buddy and I have continued to dig deeper and this shelter has really produced. Here are some of the best pieces we have found. The small pointed items I believe to be broken antler tips, I assume happened during napping.

Wow, man you are in it! That is a really old site, I have been hunting and digging for many years and never found a Paleo point like that Cumberland.
That site was apparently used for many, many years. Looks like you have points ranging from Paleo, Archaic to Woodland.
Looks like you have Adena, Buck Creek, Greenbrier and Cumberland.
"Keep digging" and good luck.
