Re: Age on this buck?

I'd go 3.5 on him. I dont think he quite has the body weight to be fully mature, but those black tarsals make me think hes no youngster.

Re: Age on this buck?

Keep in mind aging one today should be stated in terms of what we believe to be his age come Fall 2020, rather than "today".

And as always, right now is a terrible time to accurately age a buck in Tennessee.

I believe this buck is 4 1/2 or older.

Hope he can be tracked and new pics produced in late October.

Re: Age on this buck?

Got a few snaps of him last week already putting on some inches. My gut says hes going into his 5th birthday. Hopefully i can put a tag on him. I still cant narrow down where he is bedded most days.

Re: Age on this buck?

Well got a surprise today while moving cams off last years pinch point trails over to mineral licks. The buck showed up on a cam a half mile south in an area i had not thought he traveled. This buck is all over the place with a range between all 7 cams has a 2.5 mile perimeter. Looks like he may be growing a double spit brow tines this year. Stay tuned

Went to make sure cams are good to go and round up any pestering false trigger weeds and caught him on another location 3/4 mile to the north. I think I'll call him "Nomad"

Haven't checked cams since 6/12, waiting on my Exodus Render before I head back out to check cams so I don't have to make 2 trips. Nomad should be solid buck by now and could potentially touch 150" with a good growth spurt.

Please keep us updated on the Exodus Render - I was looking at the Lift II camera from them. Love the 5 yr warranty, but there appears to be a lot of mixes reviews on the customer service, turnaround time and the cameras themselves. I am skeptical, but optimistic. I have 3 Reconyx cameras and love them. At this moment, I would be inclined to spend a little extra on them ($399.99). I do not care for cellular

Well got my render in and have had a baby girl in between so haven't been able to go check the cams for over 2 months. I did make it up today and pulled 7 cams 5 were duds but 2 were solid. Of course they were the cams in Nomads range. I did get him on both cams. I never got to set the Render and got rained on all evening. One cam was the extreme west side of the range and the other is the extreme ene side of his range three tenths of a mile away. The times reflect such so that's something to consider on your guys cams. On the extreme west cam is where I got him in daylight or within 45 minutes of sunset multiple times. He would always enter frame left in the pm and frame right in the am 100% of the time so that says he is bedded west of that cam which was what I've been after and I feel closer now. The extreme east cam had him on it multiple times on the far edge of beans and he never showed up there before 1130 pm to 2 am which I've noticed tends to be the edge of a deers travel range for that night before circling back to bed. The cams show that he is the man on campus because all deer step aside when he approaches and when he leaves they enter the frame of the camera. These two cams are .38 miles apart and it appears the nomad buck isnt traveling so much. I believe much of that is due to some crop fields in the area never got planted and are still fallow along with him being older. I drew a polygon connecting the cams and known bedding in the area that measured around 45 acres. about 70% of that is standing beans the other 30 is cover. I had not planned on hunting him on the velvet hunt and actually set a stand in May to kill him Oct 15-20th. But with the new situation and information I picked a tree out near the cam that showed him at or near daylight multiple times the past week or two. I got to try it at least. Maybe his age has him shrinking his range. Here are some pics of Nomad 2020. I got no clue on what he would score but I think he is 5-6 yrs old this year and that's the class I like to chase.
