Depends on the type hunting you are doing and how far/rough it is getting to the stand location!
Sticks verses steps

Screw in steps will gut you like a fish if you slip and fall on one. Heard too many stories of them failing in the hunters Ed safety reports. Got rid of mine.
Go with stick ladders. A little more work, a little noisier, but it is much better than lying on the ground with 10' of intestines strung up over your screw in step.
Be sure to use a fall restraint system every time!

I disagree on the work. Stick ladders are much less work and time than screwwng in all those steps. Especially on hard wood trees like oaks.
