Its pretty difficult for hunters to kill mallards when they spend the entire winter hopping from refuge to refuge. Of course the non hunting mortalities are far greater. Half of them probably choked on corn.

yep. and diseases spread from being concentrated so much. but the experts won't tell you all that.

Plenty of mallards die by gun fire.

yes they do, but now they are concentrated around the refuges and being killed by a lot fewer hunters. that's a fact, in tennessee at least.

I wonder if ducks can get diseases from being concentrated in one area such as a refuge like turkeys get black head or fowl pox from having a flock in a tight baited area like a corn pile??
