Question for the experts

Was out driving the back roads this afternoon and saw a deer standing on the side of the road. I was able to drive right up to her without her running off. She had what looked like snot and/or saliva hanging off her snout about 6 in. When she finally did walk away it looked like she was barely able to walk. Aside from this she appeared to be healthy; not too skinny, nice looking coat. Anybody got an idea as to what is wrong with her.

Look in the Serious Hunting forum. The state is currently enduring a severe bout of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). We've been expecting a bad year but the drought seems to be compounding it effects even further. My guess was you encountered a deer in the later stages of EHD. Since it is a short acting disease (death usually occurs within three days after onset of symptoms), extremely healthy looking deer may become victims. It's unfortunate but it is also completely natural.
