Bought a new H&R 45/70 Handi Rifle today. Looks like Slufoot is the one for the conversion. Where can I get loads for it and do yall shoot full bore bullets or sabots in these? This is new to me as I've used a Savage ML II the last few years. Thanks for any help you can give.

Slufoot is the man on H&R conversions. You'll need a Savage breech plug to send with the barrel when you have him convert it.

4198 and a 195/200 gr. bullet in a light blue sabot is pretty much the go-to load for them. There are some load charts on Doug's that show some of the other .45 cal loads.

I'd start around 55 gr and work up till you start seeing pressure signs on the sabot.

Just talked to Robert (Slufoot) and he is not doing any more conversions until the first of the year. He recommends the Harvester smooth light blue sabot and 200gr SST. I have used SSTs in an Encore with 777 and didn't like how they performed on deer. I might give the 195gr Barnes and that same sabot a try when I get this done.

If you can't wait, Cole at CMC can do a conversion with the new arrowhead plug. A bit more expensive, but you won't have to worry about vent liners and the plug is a smaller diameter which I like better for the break actions.

Where is CMC and how can I get in touch with Cole? I like the looks of the Arrowhead plug. What is the Tungsten bushing they are talking about? Is it like the vent liner in the Savage? How much is a bit more? Lol

Anybody had Slufoot do an H&R conversion with the Arrowhead plug? Wish I had asked him yesterday when I talked to him.
