New Custom 280AI

Picked up my new custom 280AI rifle built by Greg at Southern Precision Rifles. Specs:

Defiance AnTi Action w/ nitrided bolt
Proof Sendero Lite 8.4 Twist 26" Barrel
Chambered w/ my custom designed reamer
Manners EH1 Stock
Hawkins Bottom Metal
Jewell Trigger

Rifle came in at 6 lbs 10 oz bare and 8 lbs 4 oz with the Seekins rings and Zeiss V4.

I designed the reamer to seat my preferred bullets with the bearing surface above the doughnut zone.

Overall COAL w/ bullet seated to lands:
160gr Nosler Accubond: 3.490"
175gr Berger Elite Hunter: 3.616"
180gr Berger Hybrids: 3.623"
180gr Hornady ELD-M: 3.579"

Looking forward to getting to the range to break it in and start some load development!

I would say it's perfect, but I built it and designed the reamer for exactly what I wanted so I'm easy to please haha!

Very nice rifle! Out of curiosity, how would this custom throated cartridge stack up to the new 7mm PRC? I saw a video from Gunwerks discussing the new 7mm PRC and they stated they preferred it over their own 7mm LRM. Congrats on the new rifle!

The 7 PRC has capacity to run about 100-125 fps faster than the 280AI; however, it should be noted that while the velocity potential is there, that may not be where the accuracy node is.

For the 175/180gr bullets, I suspect the 7 PRC will shoot at a node about 50-70 fps faster than my custom throated 280AI. This is based on my experience with custom throated 280AI's, 7mm REM Mag and 28 Noslers.
