Joined the smokeless ranks

I've been planning on doing a conversion on my Rem700 ML, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Came across a CVA Optima Elite in 45/70 that already had the smokeless conversion done, so figured what the heck. Plan on getting the feel of shooting smokeless and use this for a year or two and if I'm hooked then I'll spend the money converting my Remington.

Here she is, think I'll call her "Thumper" :grin:

Me? I'm so broke I can't pay attention.

But I own a safe full of M/L just wondering if one of them might be on the list. Only one I see that might be is my Optima but it is a older one so it might be out too.

Me? I'm so broke I can't pay attention.

But I own a safe full of M/L just wondering if one of them might be on the list. Only one I see that might be is my Optima but it is a older one so it might be out too.

As long as your Optima is one of the models that you can interchange barrels you should be ok - you'll just need to find a 45/70 barrel and send that in for the conversion.

I'd skip the savage. Nothing wrong with them, great shooters, but I think you would like the 45 better.

I have both and so far the conversion wont hold a candle to the Savage.....but Whitakers also have the CVA Apex and the 45/70 barrels...together after tax you looking at $700 tho.

If you're looking at the apex buy the 45/70 model instead of the mzl and 45/70... Will save you lots of $. They also have the camo version for a little more.

I spent too much. I got IMR sr 4756 and Acc. 5744 powder. A Nikon Omega 3-9x40 scope, rings and mount. My big problem is getting time to shoot it, I am tied up till the 2nd of next month.
