How would you guys go about scouting/hunting big woods? I'm talking like Natchez trace where there aren't many fields.

Start by finding a place where you can hear a long way, usually I would do this a few days before the season. Locate birds by doing this and move in to their areas to hunt.

If that's not possible use google earth to find areas which are good habitat and try them through trial and error. I would caution against alot of pre season scouting for risk of bumping birds

That's what I had planned so it looks like I'm on the right path. Bad thing about this area is there are lots of trails thru it and people ride them.

Best thing to do is get on the back forty where no-one wants to go. Public land birds seem to be right near the main roads/trails pre-season,but as soon as season starts, they completely change patterns and move WAY inland.
