I have to work tomorrow, first time they've ever asked me to work on a Saturday, they're short staffed so I have no choice. Of course it would be opening day of deer season. At least I will get Monday off.

I have to work also but I work on most Saturdays. I don't care much though because of the heat. Good luck Monday.

it's opening day I hate to miss it regardless of the heat, deer or no deer. I killed 3 in the first 3 days last year.

With as many deer as you're accustomed to seeing I doubt you'll miss much by skipping opening morning. This will be the first opener I've missed aside from crushing my hip and breaking a leg opening morning a couple of years ago. I'm thinking about foregoing the entire archery season this year.

It's much too hot, plenty of better days ahead. By you covering tomorrow, I'm sure your management team will remember this and when you want that last-minute day off in Nov because of the rut, you're more likely to get it.
It's never too hot to deer hunt. It's a lot hotter than ideal, but still it is deer season.

I also have a week of vacation right on top of peak rut where I hunt. So I got that to look forward to. Where I work (UPS) not gonna get any extra days off after Thanksgiving, its all hands on deck until Christmas

Bummer, you have to miss. Up north, I never missed an opening day. Down here just too darn hot for me to get motivated. Having a yard sale in the morning and getting things ready for a duck/deer combo hunt in Maine in 2 weeks. Honey do now, hunt more later...

I'm in the same boat. Work for a major cell phone carrier and the new IPhone came out this weekend. Mandatory work all weekend. Might try hitting the woods for a morning hunt before clocking in Sunday at noon since we have a short work day Sundays. Just don't think I'd make it hunting from 6-11 then working 12-8 tomorrow

UPS isn't short staffed...they refuse to admit that they are screwing the newest drivers by working them until 10 and 11 pm on Saturday nights here in Knoxville. I'd tell them to go piss up a rope unless you volunteered to work. There were 5 bid sheets put up here to go Full Time package. Wanna know how many people signed them? Less than 7 out of probably 1000 part time employees.

If you wanna go hunt...I'd go hunt.

There's always something conspiring against me. Last night the wife came home and said "What's all this water all over the garage floor from?" Yay! Ruptured water heater hose. Going to Home Depot as soon as they open. It "should" be one of those 10 minute fixes followed up by a hearty "Enjoy your hot shower Darlin'! I'm going hunting!" This afternoon.

I ended up being an extra this morning and stayed home just had to be on call in case someone called out. So now I got the day off but missed the morning hunt.

Things are kind of screwed up since they went to Saturday ground delivery. Also we are in process of moving a bunch of routes over to another center. Hope it smooths out at some point

I hear ya! Just got thru mulching the back yard flower bed and changed the oil in my Titan. I'm for sure 10 lbs lighter I think. The chili cheese nachos from last nights Powell football game didn't help either.

Gonna go watch elk tonight in LaFollete. The bulls were screaming this week.

Wow lots of UPSers on here. It's hard to believe you're already driving cat and how short the wait time is in a lot of centers.

I didn't get an opportunity till after 15 years. I went and worked at the 5th largest hub in the country cause they told us we would be driving in a few months (we transferred there but kept our seniority due to a shift closing and we were following where our volume went). Very first guy I talked to had been there 10 years and was still waiting. So most of us transferred back.

I already passed up one chance to go full time, due to the whole deal of Saturday's and moving half of our routes to another center. I didn't want to get stuck with the worst of it. But I've been thinking about that, it would be good for me to have an actual career. I might want to take the next position that comes up, they said there's another one opening pretty soon. I got to talk to some people before I make any decisions...
