What is it? Spearhead?arrowhead? Knife?
Preform. If it is beveled, I'd call it a Cobbs. Looks well made too.
Preforms are late stage bifaces that are ready for notching or stemming into their final shapes, and they don't require further thinning. The last stage would be sharpening the edges of the blade.Might sound like a stupid question but what is a preform? I'm 63 and have found arrowheads all my life here in East Tennessee, but I have never heard that term before.
For instance, here is a Lost Lake that I made, and a preform for one before notching and sharpening.Might sound like a stupid question but what is a preform? I'm 63 and have found arrowheads all my life here in East Tennessee, but I have never heard that term before.
You're welcome utvolsfan77@Lost Lake thanks for the explanation - now it makes perfect sense.
