I know an area with a good population of them in Grainger county...Would any of you fellas know where a man might be able to hunt some fox squirrels on public ground? I'd love to try em out one time. Thanks
They are still thereWe always seen fox squirrels on Standing Stone in Overton County back in the 90s. Always wanted to go there and hunt them, but never did.
I've never seen a fox squirrel in Standing stone but it is crawling with greys this year.We always seen fox squirrels on Standing Stone in Overton County back in the 90s. Always wanted to go there and hunt them, but never did.
You reckon the grays pushed em out?Used to have them all over our place. Saw one this year and it's the first one I've seen in several years
Could have. They coexisted for many years, but have seen less and less of them. I assumed they had just been dying offYou reckon the grays pushed em out?
Skin them as you kill them. Much easier.I stopped shooting those, everyone I've tried to skin has been tougher than heck. As in, they've pulled into 2 halves while trying to remove the skin.
I have never seen but 1 solid black squirrel in my 60 yrs of squirrel hunting.I've seen several in the valley that I live in that are solid black. Same size as a gray but seem to get along
Google Olney, IL squirrelsI am on the KY, TN line (Calloway-Henry) been 3 Fox squirrels behind my shop for the last couple of weeks working on an acorn tree, 45 yrs ago it was rare to kill one around here except between the rivers, now there pretty abundant. Watched one this morning black face white tip on his tail very pretty. I am a pretty serious squirrel hunter but don't care much about killing fox squirrels. Here is a pic of one about a mile from where I live, these white squirrels will show up every so often then you want see them for a few years then there back. Wouldn't dare kill one.
They showed up bout 10-12 years ago and are scattered all throughout the valley. Theys enough of em to start getting run over on the backroadsI have never seen but 1 solid black squirrel in my 60 yrs of squirrel hunting.
Been thru Olney several times going to Newton, IL about 20 miles from Olney, yeah there is plenty there.Google Olney, IL squirrels
That's neat, the one I seen between the rivers (LBL) look like a full grown fox squirrel but black.Look just like this

What part of the state forest are they in? I've only seen one in the area. It was dead on the road just as you leave the state forest heading toward Hilham. I am trying to find a rifle in 17 mach II to hunt them with. They are still there
