Freelance outdoor journalists don't get as many perks as one might think. But every now and then somebody throws us a bone. I got a REALLY cool bone not long ago when Crappie NOW magazine hosted a Writer's Camp in Wetumpka, Alabama. There I got to spend an afternoon fishing with Duck Dynasty star, John Godwin. Godwin is as real, and as funny, as he was on the popular reality show. But he's also a kick-ass crappie fisherman! My business partner was a music label vp and did a christian music project with the whole Duck Dynasty crew and said they were all as real as they were on the show. He got Jase to sign and give me a couple of duck calls so i signed and sent him one of my homemade turkey calls. I thought it was funny and apparently he got a good laugh out of it too.
