So late last winter I was able to finally put my name on 35acres in middle TN, this has been a long time coming and a dream coming to fruition. This land has 10acres of fields and 25 acres of pretty thick cedar woods. I started working on what I call fields 2 and 3 as early as I could this past spring with a soil sample to start off. I planned out a dove field in #2, I took a 2 bottom plow through it to start, disc'd it multiple times and then spread my lime and sprayed multiple times. I struggled with living a hour and a half away, wet fields and work but I was able to kill a nice gobbler on my second hunt. Around mid may I was finally able to lay down some seed in my dove field. I planted the center section in brown top millet, about a acre and then around the border I seeded buckwheat and wgf sorghum. After such a wet spring and then seeding and going nearly 4 weeks without much rain I was getting a little worried I wasnt going to have anything make like I had hoped but in the end its all is coming together now. I went and did a few pass's with the bushog yesterday and then took the disc through it which didnt go great as the field was a little to wet to disc. I plan on shooting this field maybe the second week of season but I wanted to get some seed on the ground to give the birds a appetizer and see how productive it may be. Between fields 2 and 3 I have put down 7500lbs of lime and 1200lbs of fertilizer. The bare field pic is 3 weeks after planting before I finally got some good rain and the rest are periodic up until mowing 4 pass's yesterday. Now we wait and see what the birds what to do. The sorghum is just starting to head out so its still a few weeks before it will be ready and the Johnson grass that kinda got outa control is actually looking pretty good for places to sit and hide in. Fall deer plots will start here in a few weeks.

Congratulations on your property purchase! Looks great! Habitat work can be very rewarding! The year we did buckwheat in our summer plots we let it go to seed and the dove hammered it! Good luck on your hunt!
