I have a fence line with some huge red oaks in it. I have killed a couple mature bucks there on the rut but for about 30 yards each way from the trees nothing grows because the canopy shades the ground. Is there anything I could plant their for an additional food source or would any of this field edge blends grow there? Any suggestions?

Have a few similar myself that I have tried several different seed types on & never took. Have about convinced myself that it is a ph thing with all the leaves...

Muddy,
I have successfully planted turnips, cowpeas, wheat, and rye on field edges. I have also simply mowed and/or disked edges to promote native forage like poke, honeysuckle, greenbrier and such that can work almost as well (until hard freezes). Biggest issue I have is timing and working around my farmer spraying for grasses in beans late in the summer. Get around that, and I can pull off a pretty decent crop every fall.
