Christmas coke bottle

I picked up what I thought was another '50s or '60s coke bottle by the river in a very public fishing area a few days ago. Today I looked closer and found that its a Christmas coke, patent registered on December 25, 1923. These were produced from 1928 through 1938. First one I have found. It has a metal ring around the neck, does anyone know what that is?

Couldn't be. The bottle mouth isn't threaded.

I have a bunch of old coke bottles.. some even say soda water property of coca cola bottling co.. but have never seen one with the metal ring on it.. nice find!

reckon they used cork & a wire to secure it like wine bottles?
