Know this is an old thread, but this has been a dream of mine! Really going after it this year on public. I don't want to use dogs either, but like you said they're all over during the summer and then become ghosts after a couple weeks of season. I know it can be done just gotta put the time and work in. I'm concentrated on foothills and north Cumberland mostly for deer and bear. Fun terrain to be in
