nope been putting in for a long time but $ & greed over somebody else shooting a elk have me rethinking spending any more $ in Ky.too much bashing against out of state folks. I will keep trying Tn .

I dont put in for Tn's elk hunt. I have a hard time getting excited abour hunting a animal whose population is just 250-300 animals total spread out over 600,000 acres.I mean TWRA still wants to bring elk in. Why are we hunting an animal population whose which we are trying to grow? To me its all about the money but I think it's more the case with TN's elk program. Im not bashing TWRA because I support them on most everything they do and think they do a great job with everything except the elk program.

Killing 7 bulls a year is hardly going to hurt the population.
Maybe, but how many years have they been having the hunt? 3 or 4 i think. now take 7 bulls a year out of a herd of only 250 it starts to add up.

There are a lot more than 250 elk in Tennessee.

The herd has to be well above 500 by now.

Thanks for this reminder thread. I just applied.

I honestly think I'd even consider hiring a guide for a hunt like this, and using it as a "Colorado training wheels" trip. I keep running the logistical issues of a western trip for me (mainly, I have no close companions that are in the physical and financial shape to go). For a trip to Kentucky, I wouldn't mind going solo with a guide, since the drive would be manageable for one person.

We'll see. This is the third year I've applied.

I drew a cow tag first yr, great hunt. Tons of Elk, had eight different legal bulls in bow season within 30 yds, took a 800 lb. cow. Will be putting in as usual. Good luck to all.

Just put in for the archery hunts. Figured I would have better odds getting drawn that way rather than the rifle hunts. I wish they did have a priority system though.

I put in for both archery as well... I would rather have an unsuccessful archery hunt than no hunt at all :)

x2 on priority points

When I drew, the tag was good for archery, as well as gun, limit one cow elk. I took a cow on coal mine land, they pulled up with a monster front end loader, picked her up, took her to the rd., and loaded her into my truck. Easiest pack out on a Elk Ive ever had.

As of saturday there was one landowner tag available that I know of . they are asking $9500.00. let me know if you are interested , I'm not . Will take my chances on the draw long as I'm able to crawl !

TW , all res and non res are in the same pot , same chances to draw. I can't remember for sure , they change it yearly, but I think it's 950 or a thousand this year .

Thanks Saltman! I have applied for several years without any luck. Seems like there was only a few tags the first few years.

I was drawn last year for a archery cow, killed a mature cow on the second day. it was my first time to apply in KY. Wife and I will apply again

Gents,
What date can we start to enter for our 2014 TN elk hunt?
Thanks

Last year it was June 12-July 24. It ran concurrently with the WMA deer hunt application period.

With the elk adapting so well here you would think they could bump it up. May have something to do with the number of segments open. Who knows?
who said they was doing well?
