Some of the older Mini 14's aren't known for their accuracy. Google "Mini 14 accuracy" and you can read all about it. From what I have read though, Ruger has corrected the problem with their newer models.

Yeah I like them myself-however they generally aren't near as accurate as an AR to which they are most often compared. That said they are coyote accurate to 200-250 yds or so. High capacity magazines are available but are more spendy than AR mags. The best are the Ruger made 20 rounders imo. Positive points-- they are lighter than an AR, are piston driven, are more ergonomic, and are very reliable with feeding and function with nearly all ammo. The ranch version is the best imo. PH

my older brother bought one when they first started makin them with scope mounts,,Ranch Rifle or something,,late 80`s or early 90`s,,with a 6x scope we couldnt get a good enough group to tell if it was zeroed or not,,

I havent shot one in about 5 years so they may be different now,,but the 3-4 I shot 4-5 inch groups were about it.

The one that I've always shot is an older model. It's by far the best shooting gun I have been around considering the short barrel.

40gr.speer with 21gr IMR4227 is a good load in a mini. cloverleaf pattern at 100yds

I haven't read anything stating that ruger has fixed the problem on new minis, and I have read on several forums where individuals are saying that they are having the same accuracy issues with new ones. Hard to say

Mine is coyote accurate; it is a 1984 model. I killed a coyote with it about 5-6 years ago at around 200 yds. Just got through shooting mine since we are discussing and cussing them. This is with my AR load, non tailored, cheap azz throwaway Tasco scope, 104 yds. The distance ctc between the 2 farthest holes is a little less than .9". Now it won't shoot like this every single group but it does it often enough that I know it is not a pos. It is more of a 2" rifle but with attention to detail this rifle would probably shoot better. I adjusted it 1/2" right then powdered a 3"x3" chert cobble on the last shot at 104. Called it coyote good. Been thinking of getting a rail to fit between the dovetail bases and mounting an eotech. Since it ain't a tack driver and shoots all ammo including Wolf reliably it would be a great shtf rifle. PH

And the OP hasn't been here in almost a year. 😵‍💫
I was like who even talks about mini 14 anymore ?

Old argument too.

Mini 14 have plenty of practicle accuracy for tacticle or hunting accuracy. Maybe not so much on the bench but I've never had a bench charge me or attack me. So there is that. They are as accurate if not more accurate as a AK 47 with correct ammo and the AK47 in the right hands is a formidable fighting / hunting rifle.

As someone pointed out correct mags are a must. 20 round factory mags are the best I have ever found. People F around with cheap after market and wonder why they jam ? The things that make u go HMMM
