Scope mounting

Recently ran into someone who told me that they have quick disconnect scope rings on there scope to move from rifle to rifle . Does anyone else do this ? To me it would seen like too much trouble to do !

I remember that being a thing 20+ years ago when I worked at Mid South Shooters Supply. I don't think any of the techs recommended them, seemed more of a novelty.
Idk, maybe they have improved since then.

I used a set of quick detach rings on a Knight muzzleloader that I had years ago. There was a reasonable return to zero when reattaching them.

As far as putting the scope on different rifles??? Man that sounds weird, unless a fella likes rezeroing quite often.

How could that work? With different calibers or rifle to muzzleloader, you will have different zeros at the same distance.

I do with my thermal. Different zeros saved in the scope for different calibers and sub/supersonic loads. I paint mark the pic rail to put rings in the same place every time. This works surprisingly well. This is not precision rifle stuff but definitely minute of hog.

About the only consideration I may have would be with a thermal scope.

That's how I feel. I would to have another thermal but another $5000 doesn't sit well with me

Guess that's sort of understandable given the price of scopes if you don't mind re-zeroing. Good scope turrets will adjust fairly predictable, so you could just record the necessary adjustments and confirm at the range. The reason I put them on my Marlin 35 Rem, though, was to be able to use iron sights and replace the scope with a return to zero within a quarter of MOA (as Leupold guarantees.)

I use Leupold Quick Release (QR) Rings on my bolt guns. But it's so I can take the scope on and off for gun cleaning or maintenance and be back where I was on the same gun. It wouldn't work for switching between different guns unless the bases were in exactly the same position to the barrel on multiple guns. That's not going to happen.

Picatinny rails are an option for using one scope on multiple guns. But the scope would have to be dialed back in each time it was moved to a new gun.

If you have picatinny rails on your rifles, it would be pretty easy to do.

once Zeroed and I am satisfied, it stays in place

My Ruger 10/22 takedown always returns to zero when I dismount it to take the rifle apart to clean it.
It has always returned to zero after recounting.
I will do a three shot confirmation after recounting.
Clean the rifle after 100 rounds or so.
Keeps the feed action clean,(stainless barrel).
