Learning livescope

Talking to my buddy at work and he asked me how "wide" does the transducer look.
I never really thought about it so I did some looking.
20 degree "cone" or whatever you call it.
So at 25' it sees 9' wide and at 50' it sees 18'.
Pretty neat stuff.

I haven't personally used it in what I could call muddy water but I wouldn't think it would matter.
Maybe one of the guys that have had them a while will chime in.

Works good in muddy water,some have had trouble in pollen filled water in the spring but i havent.

and after 50 feet the beam form gets narrower until it reaches almost zero. its not cone shaped as in a 2d waveform but more football shaped to put in laymans terms.

Muddy water doesn't matter... still works. But you do need to figure out how to adjust the Gain, Noise Reject and various other settings for varying types of water or water conditions. Like EVERY other electronic fishing device, there is no "set way" to do it. It just takes time on the water and experimentation to learn the variables.

All I know is this thing is deadly!

The only other thing I have is a Helix 7.
I have it on the right side of my front deck and the Livescope on the left.

I have a Helix 9 mounted on my console. Use lake maps to get into an area, sidescan to see something worth a closer look, then move up on it with LS... I do not have it mounted on the trolling motor. Spotlock helps a lot. Having the screen mounted up off the deck also helps a ton.

Here's a look from the front.

Homemade LS mount is on magnets so it pops loose, and rocks back, if I hit anything but won't fall in the water. The handle twists to turn the transducer too, instead of swinging in an arc.

I like your idea of DIY mounts and poles. Cost of this junk is through the roof!
Looks like you have another unit up front?
Anyone ONLY using livescope up front? Feel hindered at all if so?

That other unit was there before I mounted the LS, and has now been removed. I had no real use for it there... The home made stuff is cheaper, but not cheap. This game costs MONEY! Leaving that rod holder up there is well worth it, because I can keep an extra handy, and also put the one I am using there after I land a fish. I have found that rods laid on the deck frequently end up broken.

Ain't that the truth!
I bought one of the cheap white ones from walmart and mounted it to the front of my deck. Makes it handy to drop the rod in there while I unbutton, throw back, or put the fish in the cooler and rebait when I am bream fishing.

I started crappie fishing with one pole and a jig, using 2D sonar with a transducer mounted on the trolling motor. That evolved into holding a pole in each hand shortly afterward. Catching doubles every once in a while was fun!
Then, I got the four pole rod holder up front and spider rigged for a season. That produced a little more action, and about the same amount of fish, But, I missed feeling the thump, and also a lot of bites!
Once LiveScope came out, and I decided to get one, I needed to rethink the front area. The decision to mount the screen up in the rod holder really helped, and leaving the two rod holders just seemed logical. The second screen on the deck, and the trolling motor transducer were abandoned, because I had no need for them.
I debated on adding a 360, but so far have found no real need for it. And, more toys is fun, but costly!

I'm right there with you except I never got into the spider. I miss catching them tight line
but life hasn't allowed me to keep up with piles and the fish. I catch my share every year but of course it's not enough… I "THINK" I can justify livescope my maximizing my time on the water as productive time.
My dilemma, I've downgraded boats and electronics as life and priorities have changed and am back at scratch. To me, at minimum, sidescan at console and livescope at bow. Just trying to work out kinks and others thoughts / regrets before I possibly take the plunge.
Pennies sure are adding up with this stuff!
I tend to avoid clutter on the deck but spun off your idea and like the look of using the single pole Millenium rod holder for a head unit.
Anyone using Garmin sidescan? GT 56 vs 54 thoughts?

I call my boat "EARRINGS ON A PIG", because all of the gear is worth twice the value of the boat. The Terrova was a big hit, but so necessary, Spot Lock allows me to sit just downwind of the fish and run that jig right in their faces. There is no end to chasing technology, but I take it in spells.
I had a friend who wanted to get into the game, and planned to buy everything I had, all at once. I gave him a list, and added the newer gear that I thought he needed, since some of mine was aging out. He called me back after checking prices, and sounded astounded... LOL He has the money, but doesn't want to get off of that much at one time.
I could drop another 5K, and still be lacking. At some point, you seriously have to consider if a few more fish are worth the investment. I don't tourney fish, and I don't have sponsors. And now, I fish for BIG CATS a lot more than I crappie fish!
