Killed my first bird off my place. It was a real epic battle with this gobbler.

Well I had not hunted since opening weekend and I headed out last Tuesday with plans to find out if they were still roosting in the same spots. I heard nothing Tuesday afternoon/evening so I decided to put my hen decoy on the trail and come back the next morning. I got to my spot and heard a gobbler a long way away. I called and he answered, game on. He kept getting closer on the ridge top an then he flew down to me. I guess he didn't like the decoy, I never saw or heard him after he flew over. I kept quiet for about 30 to 45 minutes then I clucked a few times and two gobblers went off. I held quiet and one of them kept coming closer gobbling every minute or two. I finally saw his head on the ridge coming straight to me. I was not facing the right way so I had to wait for him to put a tree between me and him so I could re-position. It took forever for him to in range, but the shot was only about 20 yards and the 20 ga rolled him. This was the first bird I'd ever called in and killed, I'm hooked. I have been skunked for a few years and it was sweet to finally connect. I heard at least 4 different gobblers that morning, they were fired up for sure.
