Shot at a nice buck this mornin about 250 yards. Felt good about the shot and he kinda jumped a little and ran off stiff legged in the front. Found where he took off whe I shot but no hair no blood. He went into some thick stuff and I've looked about a hundred yards in and can't find anything. Shooting a 7 mag 150 grain bullet. Not familiar with this caliber as it's the first time shooting one. Your thoughts?

that caliber is as good as any at that distance. Hope you find something!

Reaction sounds like a gut shot deer. How long did you wait until tracking? Do you have a water source nearby? He will head to water.

It's really thick and some slopes in it but no water close that I know of

From what you describe it does sound like it might be a gut shot. If it turns out that it was, and if you let him lay up and don't jump him, he shouldn't go far before bedding down. You could try going back in late this evening, or wait til tomorrow morning. Tough call.
