When do you think this fawn was conceived? I saw it this morning. Doesn't look to be much older than 6 - 7 weeks does it? With two young bucks under a white oak of course.

I was in my stand one muzzle loader season several years back and I had a very small spotted fawn come through bleating looking for its mom who was being chased by a buck

Estimate it's age then count back 201 days. That's when momma was bred.

I've caught spotted fawns on camera in January, meaning they were conceived in early spring. Makes sense as to why you sometimes see antlered bucks acting rutty as late as March. Down south here they really can be born anytime and have good survival odds. Further north the window is much tighter to prevent fawns from experiencing harsh winter weather.

That fawn is 3w old... conceived end of Jan/ early Feb.

Normal rut for us in south MS... which is why does are illegal to kill first 2 weeks of bow season...

Several years ago the Region 4 deer biologist was checking fetuses from road kill. One yearling doe I picked up was bred in March. I've saw pregnant does killed in October, confiscated a 4-5 week old fawn that was illegally killed November 13 by a spotlighter several years ago and have saw a spotted fawn at the end of December.
As far as bucks go they can breed does even if they don't have antlers.
