Are increased sightings of young bucks cruising an indication of females going into estrous? I've heard that young bucks will often cruise and check before any does in the area have gotten hot. The more mature bucks will wait till there is actually a hot doe in the area.

Thoughts?

Yes and no. The youngsters just don't have the experience and get antsy. That all leads up to the rut. About now start watching for it because it could flip on like a light switch.

I've seen a mature buck tailing a single doe twice this week. Both times out of range. And I've seen a couple of small bucks moving through multiple times. Feels like the beginning for us.

No the young ones always get frisky early, then the big ones start cruising, and then the does come in. Generally speaking.
