Good luck! How far from where he was shot until you saw him jump up?

If he died the dog will find him. Pretty rare I hear about a dead deer that the dog missed. It happens but most generally the dog finds the deer. And if it doesn't, then you've done all you can do.
Maybe 150 to 200 yards

If he wasn't mortally wounded, I doubt you would have jumped him twice.

Sure hope you find him but I sure wouldnt wait till dark to take the dog in.He is more than likely dead by now anyway!
If he ain't dead by now your in trouble no matter how long you wait, he will more than likely be ruint by dark

Why did you wait 2.5h before taking up the track initially? Felt like a bad shot???
If he's was alive 2.5h after the shot and you know you didn't hit gut... well, you are probably not going to find that deer, even with dogs. If bullet had penetrated chest cavity, he should have been dead.

I really didn't have much of a choice after he jumped up i needed to back out and the guy with the dog is going to get here as soon as he gets off work.
He was broadside about 45 or 50 yards out the only thing i can think of is no pass through i always wait a couple of hours unless they fall in there tracks

hopefully you hit gut. If you did, dog will definitely find him, but may not be quite dead yet.

If he was hit decent at all I would've thought he'd have been dead at the 2 1/2 hour mark. Best of luck! I hope y'all find him.
If hit in shoulder and wasn't dead in 2.5 hours he still alive and well, what bullet? I'm guessing it pancaked on shoulder blade? Could be wrong but I hope you find him
I've seen that once. It was with a .243 at very close range. I wonder if a defective bullet gets through the manufacturing process now and then. Probably not likely with a muzzleloader ball (I don't know much about ML).
Did you happen to walk up to the bed you jumped him out of to see what it looked like?
