White-tail deer carry Meningeal worms with no ill effects. These same worms usually kill other cervids if they contract them.

Meningeal worms are basically harmless to white-tails, but deadly to elk and mule deer.

If you see it in a deer...is it safe to eat? I'm assuming it is.

I wouldn't eat the brain of any animal, but the meat of the deer is fine.

I had a customer, dropping off a deer one time, wanting the jawbone right then to have aged. As I caped the head out some nasal bots fell onto the floor. He swore that the meat must have went bad at the processors, and he was calling them to complain, and that he was not going to eat it. I had to google nasal bots to show him it was common.

on the last deer he brought me he said he has cut into the nose of every deer he has killed since, and found them "worms" to be in all but two...LOL but my point is ...Its amazing what these animals in the wild have to live with. Tuff creatures for sure
