Most of the areas we hunt are not ideal for a south wind....however I have a spot that they travel sometimes upwind and sometimes downwind. I am taking my chances and hope they come upwind of me and if they come downwind, I am at an acceptable scent level. Bad idea or not?

I'd give it a shot, I will be in a spot where deer could be up, down, or cross wind, not even sure which direction they will come from because deer trails and thick cover are all around me.

Yeah there is not really a spot in the woods deer don't travel behind me. Thanks for the input.

I am one of those that pretty much does not hunt a spot if the wind is not right. I do have other places to choose from though and it would be hard to do if I only had a couple places to hunt.

I'm one of those that hunt my best spot regardless of wind direction. My spot may be unique, but the deer just seem to come from a different direction nearly every time. They are always coming or going as random as possible, therefore I don't worry about the wind. I use some strong scent control tactics and have very very rarely been busted by smell... at least that I can tell.

All of my stands are placed so the wind is of no concern. I always hang stands or place ladder stands that way. Then, no matter what direction the wind is from, all of my stands are perfect.

That eliminates trying to do frustrating job of predicting the wind direction more than two hours before going. There is no way of knowing today or even tomorrow night what the wind direction will be at daylight Saturday morning and even less of what it will be at 8:30.

It doesn't matter to me. I can hunt any of my stands and never worry about it. And if the wind changes direction at good sunup, as it often does, it doesn't matter. My stand is still good.
