I was at the National Gun Show yesterday in northern Virginia and picked up this S&W for my wife. She had been complaining she didn't like her 38 snub nose for CC. I think she'll like this better. Now to get her out to the range and practice.

I think she will be fine with it. A few weeks ago we went to the range with our kids in VA Beach and she shot her .38, their Beretta 9mm and my Glock .45 and did pretty good with each of them.

After that day she decided she wanted something else. Also, I kinda blame the guy that taught her CC class a several months ago. He put it in her head the double action of the .38 would be hard to manage. In either case she is happy with it and it is good when wives are happy. Means I can work on filling my wishlist down the road!

A lot of women have a hard time handling the recoil of a .38 snubbie, especially with +p loads. A 9mm has less recoil, and you can find fairly effective defense loads that are not +p, which is very hard to do with a 38. If she shoots the 9 better, and shoots it more in a training session, that's a good thing. The M&P is a fine pistol that a lot of people overlook. I have had Glocks and XDs, I like my M&P better than any of the polymer framed semi autos.

A guy at my work has recommended this same pistol to me for CC. Let me know what she thinks about it.

Re: Wife's New S&W

Like Kimberman said the recoil of those 38+P rounds in a light revolver can be a bit much. I carry the S&W 642 Airweight and it surprised me the first time I shot it. If I was going to shoot it a lot I'd get something else but for what I use it for it works fine. I do like those M&P's though. Congrats to her!

I offered my Daughter any handgun she wanted when she got her permit, she took the S&W 442 DAO Airweight 5 shot 38 1 7/8 inch bbl..loaded with the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel load,,
it has a very smooth trigger pull if you just pull it and not try and shoot not slow and deliberate ,,

I know I can for 5 shots at least shoot that revolver as fast and accurate as my G32 357 Sig

HatchieLuvr, nothing to take the wrong way. From your lips to God's ears that she never has to use it in self defense!
