when do you start using scent

Just throwing this out there. Would it not be better to pee in only a select few scrapes. I.E, the ones you check most often. I don't have enough to hit every one I find some days...lol.

Dead serious! I dont pee in every one I come to, but I make a few of my own early in the season and start them with my own urine, and I pee in select ones that I think are key!
They bucks will normally take them over and keep them open!

Stopped buying scents 4 or so years ago. I do make my own scrapes and pee in them. I love going to check trail cams I put over a scrape that I made, just as good as Christmas morning. You never know what's gonna be on that cam. When I first started doing it I was honestly shocked at all the bucks coming to check it. Plus seeing those pics of bucks that you didn't know were cruising around it's a lot easier to sit in that stand an extra hour...just my .02

Yep, and they were behind the Kennedy assasination too! They had intelligence that linked the bay of pigs fiasco to the wild hog problem that would surface 50 years later and threaten all their foodplots.

He's right ! I was bow hunting at LBL a few years ago and one of my buddies walked by (about 70 yds) my stand. He did not know I was there and he took a leak next to a tree and walked off. About 40 minutes later a nice 7 point with a narrow but thick rack, walked right up to where he had relieved himself and sniffed the ground and pawed out some leafs and then walked off. I told him next time he pissed in the woods, he had better do it closer to my tree stand! LOL

Appears to me its a fairly even split. I'e tried it and the deer avoided the scrapes like the plauge. This is like trying to figure out the best hunting rifle. If you can see and kill deer doing it then by all means pee till your hearts content. But as for me and my neck of woods I'll keep it zipped.

Pissing in a scrape definitely works. The best buck I have on camera visited the scrape a few hours after I left my mark. Winchester said it best in a different post. Deer learn distinct smells and visitors in their habitat. Once you sit and watch hundreds of deer and learn their behavior it is much easier to make them think you are one of them. I have had many deer know I was sitting up in a tree and they carry on with their business. Becoming a woodsman is something that takes time and knowledge. Nothing replaces time in the field and trial and error.
