I plant a total of 6 acres every fall no spring planting 3 acres I plant in jerry oats 100lbs, rye grain 75lbs, and 10lbs white clover with 5 lbs of radishes per acre the other 3 acres I plant 10lbs radishes, 1lb turnips, 1lb rape, 100lb awnless wheat or beardless wheat and 10lbs white clover per acre rotate every yr. I DONT use any fertilizer except some of my food plot that's poor but after a yr or 2 I want use any cause the things I plant is green manure so I always disk the clover in every fall for fertilizer. Oats, rye, and wheat will grow on a rock if it rains plus the fertilizer will cause the plants to mature so fast that the deer will not eat it. That's where you get so many saying my deer want eat my oats or my wheat the reason is always wrong type seed, plants matured too fast, or not enough bedding areas around the food plots. One crop going out and another crop coming in all year long will bring more deer in than you could ever believe. PLUS that old saying you cant pattern the old mature deer he is nocturnal is false if you follow the year round plan. These measurements are per acre. I do not plow I only disk every green thing growing in for fertilizer then spread my seed and then run my homemade packer over it . I don't use high priced seed only the best seed for the job. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE THE CORRECT SEED. AWNLESS WHEAT, JERRY OATS OR THE CHEAPEST DO NOT USE BUCK FORAGE BECAUSE THEY MATURE TOO FAST You want the deer to eat them to the ground cause the rye is right behind . The clover will do nothing till spring but it will come on with it all summer till you till it in next year for fertilizer. Only planting once a year IS GREAT and seeing deer all summer in my fields eating clover knowing most are from my neighbors is priceless.
