I always plant my wheat the first or second week of Sept. and have never had this problem. The time I did wait till Oct. it only got about 6" tall and the frost hit and stunted its growth , started to go dormant and the deer mowed it to the dirt. Ever sense then I plant in Sept., get a lot better thicker stand.

I've planted wheat from the beginning of August to the end of October. I've NEVER had freezes kill the wheat. Oats, yes, but not the wheat.

Same here!, I have even planted one as late as the first of nov. did not do great..........but produced and was adequate.
