Just curious as to what types of food plots everybody is planting this year.
I have planted two big clover patches so far and once it gets warmer I plan on planting some good soybean patches.

Only plant in the fall, but it will be Wheat predominantly and Clover mixed in on each field. May use some DER on some spots but it isnt economical to do that all over.

deer jerky,
Don't you know that it's next to impossible to grow alfalfa in
Tennessee now days. My uncle grew huge fields of it years ago in
Maury County, but I have been told by numerous poster on this
site, that it is extremely hard and very expensive. They say "you
need all kinds of expensive equipment and just the right soil to
grow this crop".

My uncle had a few bacic implements back in the sixties, but he
didn't have a computer to read..........to hear he was waisting
his time trying to grow alfalfa.

I had some left over from two years ago so I scattered it around in my garden last august just to see if it would still germinate. It did and is about 4-6 inches now. It is a good crop to help loosen clay soils as well as beneficial in adding lots of nitrogen to the soil. It is no more expensive than planting a clover patch IMHO.

Great info. here.

So I have a small plot of winter wheat in now. It is thick with great growth. Some clover in there as well. No weeds right now. When and how would you plant say.... soybeans? Especially on the how. Turn the wheat under, mow? All I have is a old tiller for multiple small plots. Sorry to be such a nimrod on this but..trying to learn.

Soybeans on a small plot do not do well, deer will wipe em out,its theyre favorite.Soybeans usually need several acres to get established, deer will nip em off as soon as they sprout.May wanna try clover.JMO
