Thats a big one. Biggest I have ever caught was 14-7 which was exactly 1 lb from the state record. Fun to catch but like A.Hall said, it's trash.

old timers called them scalie cats... I get the creeps just thinking about touching one.. I have only caught one.. and I hope no more.. thanks for the pic!

Grinnel, bowfin, and scaly cat were the 3 things I have heard them called before... they are def a mean fish with lots of power!

Grinnel or bowfin, they are a blast to catch and good eating if you clean and cook them shortly after catching them

Neat fish. They are a blast to shoot. Those suckers go nuts when you stick'em with a arrow!!!!

Real men lip'em. Hahahahahahha

Mudfish... world record came from the lake behind my house before I moved here in SC. They are all over the place down there.

I grew up catching them on Santee Cooper.....they love the ugliest spinner bait you could roll through the high grass!

Fun to catch, I don't see why so many people be hating em. Not good to eat from what I hear but they are aggressive and good fighters

Biggest problem I've had with them is they usually totally destroy whatever lure you catch them on, and they can sure cut your fingers with their teeth.

They are a hard-fighting fish, but I'd rather not ever hook another. I used to have quite a bit of fun catching them in the 10-lb class on Reelfoot, in front of some out-of-state tourist fishermen who thought I had on a huge bass. They can easily be mistaken for a bass from only a short distance, especially by a novice fisherman. I'd put on quite a show, then simply very purposefully release them saying, "I only keep the ones over 12 lbs that I'm going to mount." :D

That was also back in the day when most bass fishermen kept their catch.

They sure are fun to catch! Heck of a fighter. Clean them while fresh, use little or no water on the meat, then put them in the grease and they are not bad. Very white meat.
