I am by no means a gun expert, a customer of mine husband passed away & i went over to take a look at some of his guns she was going to sell & this one was in his collection. took the arbor for 30 cal out of my bore sighter & it was loose in the barrel but the 32 cal would not fit. anyone have any input on what it is? there is no caliber or manufacturer on the barrel, stock looks to be off another gun as it has been all glass bedded. real pretty wood on the stock. oil left too long on metal though.

redfield scope :) take it to a real gunsmith & they can ck it,former military action & stock has been sporterized, probaly a real shooter, the cutaway on the left side of the action is for loading & open sites were probaly standered, more than likely a mauser of some sort,i had 1 that had the same bolt release but the wing saftey was mounted at the back of the bolt,mike243

I am pretty sure that is a sportized .303. Like the old British Military arm. The saftey is the same kind and looks to be one someone "sporterized" which was very popular for a while.

It is a sporterized P14(pattern 14) British Enfield probably in .303 Bristish unless it has been altered. Most of them were made in the US by Remington and Winchester because the Brits couldn't produce enough rifles during WWI. The US modified the design somewhat and called it the Model of 1917 chambered in 30/06 when they needed rifles for WWI and couldn't make enough Springfields in a timely manner.

The P14/M1917 are big strong actions suitable for reworking to magnum chamberings and many were over the years. Plateau Hunter

I've got one of the 1917 Enfields in 30/06 that I reworked this past year and it turned out to be a real shooter. It looks like the same stock that is on that rifle that's on mine. It must have been on the market at that time for sporterizing Enfields maybe Fajen. Those are an old model Redfield rings on that rifle so the sporter job must have been done several years back. The floorplate on that one has been straightened which was done to improve the lines of the rifle. It involves a little cutting, trimming, and welding on the bottom metal to make it a little racier. They don't usually sell high and one can get a good rifle for a reasonable price in those. I gave $300 for mine with blueing in better shape but stock finish in worse shape with the same rings and a 4x Weaver El Paso Scope. It would make a good rifle to either use as-is or rework into another caliber.
