I have a buddy that is in a club and he only wants to plant fall

plots due to being an active farm. He wants the plots in a part

of the farm that is crp fields. Even though he wants fall only

plots wouldn't it be wise to go ahead a disk the ground

now(when I say now I mean this time of the year) rather than

wait till the late summer gets here and the ground is as hard

as concrete. The ground has never been broken or at least not

in the past ten years, and all he has access to is a

fourwheeler disk. I think he should go ahead and break the

ground so this summer it wont be so bad. What do you think?

If the ground has never been broken before, DEFINITELY break it for the first time this spring, when the ground is fairly soft.

The more you work it generally the easier it will be to prepare it. All the grass and weeds will compost in the soil.

JohnnyDollar, If he wants to plant food plots on CRP land, it must already be an approved practice in the CRP plan, or he has to have approval from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) before he plants the food plots. The best thing to do is contact your local USDA Service Center for the county where the land is located. Normally, FSA doesn't have a problem with food plots, but it must be an approved practice.

wow thanks I didn't realize it had to be approved. A long time ago I was told that you can plat food plots but not fro harvest or profit. Thanks for letting me know I will pass the word. ;)
