what camera

New to the game also. Cheap cameras that get decent reviews are the 6mp and 8mp Tasco. Hard to find the 6mp as they are 25 bucks are Walmart. The 8mp is $39 and I have 2.

I have used several brand and am extremely impressed with the wildgame innovations not only for price but battery life. Instead of lasting juat a week or two like some branda the same batteries are lasting 6 to 8 weeks

WGI cameras have been hit and miss for me. Some have been great, others have't lasted a season. No rhyme or reason to which ones held up and which ones didn't.

Spend $100 and get a Covert MP8 Black.
Buy a cheap white flash or even a low glow and spook the game you want to see.
Also the flash will attract an evening stroller and make him a thief.

I bought two brownings almost a year ago and they're still in a tree running on the same batteries, sub zero temps and thousands of pictures later. I will spend $100 on cameras from now on.

WGI camera's are trash! I have top of their line and it takes pix when it feels like it! Moultrie camera s never seem to fail me.

I used to swear by WGI when everyone else was bashing them. Then started losing 1 or 2 a year and still do. Swapped to Moultrie and have lost just as many. This last time never got a response to send it back or anything. I do still have some Moultrie's that work and also WGI. One thing about it the WGI takes quite a bit better pics. I'll still buy either one of them brands and just hope for the best. I usually try to find sales and get the higher end WGI around the $60-$70 range and figure I'll be happy with 2 years worth out of it.

I have 6 of the WGI cameras and have never had an issue. Have had some of them for 5 years now. Use them probably 8-9 months out of the year.

I still have some Tasco Mini 3 and 5 mp cams from 5 yrs ago that are still in the woods. $50/ea, so not a bad deal IMO. I don't think they make the mini anymore tho, but since they've been taken over by Bushnell there are some "Tasco" brand tcams back out on the market now, but I haven't used any of them, yet.

One consideration when purchasing a trail camera is the fact they are notoriously high in infant mortality rate. They have improved much over the last few years, but you are still very apt to get a lemon. It is wise to at least consider the customer service of the company who makes the camera. For example, I bought a Covert BlackHawk 12.1 at a Thrift Store they other day. It was still in the original package. This thrift store had received a big bunch of stuff from Sportsman's Guide. It looked like returned items that Sportsman's Guide didn't want to fool with and donated it to the thrift store. I bought the Covert camera, because I have had very good experience with their customer service. I took back to my hotel room, got it all set up and even it connected it so I could use the cell feature. It worked great. I tried it again the next day - IT WAS DEAD. I called Covert, and in 5 minutes they had sent me a return label to ship it to them and they said they would take care of it. That is worth a whole lot to me.

WGI and anything to do with the Busbice family is total garbage... browning has been the best bang for the buck imo lately. Yes reconyx is better but also 3x the cost. I've ran 12 browning black flash for the last two years year round with zero failure to this point. They do go through batteries quick if you use video

And they came with a factory 2 yr warranty as well. I had to return 3 after over a years use and Bushnell replaced them with new cams.

Those are Bresser brand. Biggest knock against them is that there is no date/time stamp. If you're gonna check it often, that may not be a deal breaker, or if you're only gonna use it for a draw hunt and want one out for a couple days at a time. I like to leave mine 3-4 weeks plus at a time and that wouldn't work well for me.

The best bulletproof cheaper cams are the brownings lower end models. Great photo quality and battery life for a cam under 100 and very reliable, I have several with no issues

One has been out coming up on 2 years with the same set of lithium batteries

Asking that question is like asking what truck you should by next, there are a ton of camera manufacturers out these days so it's hard to pick just one .They all have their good and bad points ,Just have to do some research on them and buy what you can afford ....But I am a big Moultrie fan , we run a dozen or more Moultrie cams on our lease in Ohio and average probably 5000 Picts per cam a month and they just keep on keeping on !!!!! Still have 2 white flash cams about 10yrs old that are my go too cams for my scrape Picts.

I'm going to go against the grain on this one and let you know I'll never buy another WGI product. The 2 wgi cams I had were total garbage.

Also, a $100 camera that lasts 8 years, still works great, is cheap in my opinion. The Covert brand has served me very well.

I too avoid WGI. They may be better now but were a pain in the arse to program and night pics were super blurry with movement and the anti-blur setting activated. I had two different cameras and eventually sold them on ebay mostly because I hated programming the things.

Moultrie seems most consistent and I have tried lots of brands. Back in the day Primos wasn't bad but I havent tried them in a while. I'd be willing to try a Tasco if I needed another cheap camera. I have heard good things.

that's some good customer service. And I wish our thrift stores would get donations from sportsmans guide!

That's the first time I ever saw stuff like that in a thrift store. I was in North Carolina - and couldn't believe all the stuff they had! I bought 2 pair of Red Wing boots - brand new and the Covert Camera...I was like a kid in a candy store. LOL.

I bought 4 Tasco 6mp cams from Walmart at $25 a piece. After adding cards and locks and lithium batteries I have 200 in the whole kit. I left one out on public ground until the end of January and got 650 pics. While some pics are not good at all I'd say 500+ had good pics. I believe I have pics of the bucks my boy and I shot last season.
For the investment I can throw out all 4 and have an ok idea of what's in an area.

Covert is great. Their customer service has walked me through several issues while in the field. They are still a small company. Agreed WGI is trash.

Also look into Cabelas camera. I have had really liked mine and its almost the same as the covert. I wouldn't be surprised if Covert makes them for Cabelas?

I am currently using both WGI and Moultrie cameras. All have worked fine however both of my WGI cameras are much harder on batteries than the Moultrie cameras. Whenever one goes belly up I'm going to try a Browning and see how I like it.

I just spent the past two weeks going over and fixing 15 homebrews ...mostly just cleaning and maybe wire a couple.Charging Batteries and cleaning the lens
I had to hack 2 cameras ...but all look and are performing good.I am thinking about putting a few out.
I like to fool with them after I get into it.This is my dog and his girlfriend ..she died last year...EHD??
