Went to get some new arrows. I had wanted em all year. Made space in my budget. Man I was excited. Season coming up, new arrows, new broadheads. Heck I could almost taste the venison.

I pull up and stroll in with baby in the stroller. The shop was busy, the guys behind the counter said they'd be with me in a minute.

Finally I tell em why I'm there and the tech says, your string needs replacing. I said ehh, maybe next season it'll have to wait. He then tells me it would probably snap if I shot it all season and began to show me multuple places it was almost stranded through.

So I ended up spending $250 for arrows/string and cable and maybe a tune up.

On a good note the wife didn't even complain. Altgough I'm worried what shes gonna try to get out of this...

$250? What brand of arrows and string/cables did they sell you? I'm assuming that they probably didn't build you a set and just sold you an over the counter string. That sounds very expensive to me...unless you went all out on the arrows.

You could have gotten a REALLY good set of Energy Wave custom strings for around $70 shipped and a dozen Gold Tip Hunter XT arrows fletched up for $65-70 and been good to go.

I thought the same too. My guy charged $120 for string, cable, kisser button, peep tube, and the rubber end to a string stop. He may have bought 12 arrows though

I just got my bow back with new strings, cable and a dozen arrows cut to length, fletched and with field points, all for less than $170. Either your arrows or your bow shop are expansive... But the main thing is that you will be good to go, and glad you got the string. Hope you kill one this year, best of luck.

BAH! $207 plus tax then $29 for a tune.

Right at $250 for it all.

That's what I paid for my string and cables.

$120 bucks for custom strings and cables is about right. I always replace the cables when I replace the strings. Any decent string manufacture will recommend doing that at the same time. Cables stretch at about the same rate as the string IMHO.

Oh and I pay $170 for my Carbon Express Arrows DZ.

My practice arrows are DCA arrows and they are $59 dollars a dozen and shoot to the exact same impact point as my Carbon Express. Heck they shoot so good I might even hunt with them this season.

Wow you got took for a little bit of a ride.. TnDeerGuy is right...hope they threw in some lube for you. lol

.006 straightness arrows are low grade straightness arrows. I'm not sure the brand or model but .006s are the lowest grade shafts and are usually under $60 a dozen for even the top brands. And that is fletched and cut to length with inserts and field points. $90 a dozen is what I pay for .001 grade target shafts with target nibbs.

$30 for a tune job ain't bad if they actually done a decent job tuning...i.e. made sure your cams were timed, and overall the bow was in spec and hitting its correct poundage and draw length, with paper tuning. If they just put your bow in the press and took off your old string set and put on the new and installed your peep and dloop; that's not really tuning the bow. Most of the shops I have visited will just charge customers for the string/cable if they buy from them...and put it on the bow for nothing extra. But if they tune it...then $30 is about average for a good tune job.

yeah they threw in some lube at best, for sure... :D

I paid $60 for new string AND cable and everybody swears he does the best strings.... I'm not sure the straightness of arrows but they are good arrows and I paid just over $100 for them fletched, cut AND with field points.

I would think they would set it up for no cost after they put the string on. I guess I have gotten spoiled at Energy Wave.
Your ready to go now, and that's what in important. Good Luck

The guy said they time it but not tune it with the cables.

I didn't like the feel if the place but I don't know many other bow shops and a close shooter friend I mine reccomends them. .

I liked the guy at Benton shooters supply but I've never dealt with them.

Everyone acts like I've been robbed but it seems just about everyone is paying the same as I did for cables/strings and instal. And $90 a for dozen arrows cut fletched with feathers and inserts seems about the same too.
