Do you all think that there will be another strange rut this year based off of the cool summer temps just like last summer? Also as cold of a winter?

Where i hunt its a normal year if its "strange." In other words its strange if the bucks chase does just when and where you want them to.

I seen the best rutting activity ever this past season it was great. I hope it turns out like last year.

It was a little strange around here last year but, in a good way. I saw bucks chasing does and moving a lot pretty much all ML and Gun season. I saw a 2 1/2 year old 8 point following a doe pretty close in Jan. this year. If only he'd been a little older.

I saw no rut this year at all never saw the first chase. It was down right disappointing, compared to the previous 2-3 years. Hope it's better for me this time. I sat several days daylight to dark I saw one buck for about 10 seconds in November I saw my next buck on Christmas Eve and that was all I saw all season. It was weird for me.

There are usually some variances in the timing of the rut every year but last year I never saw rutting action. This comes from a hunter that spends a lot of time in the woods in decent locations. Wrong place? Wrong time? Possibly, but I generally see some of the action. What I saw last year involved bucks (many of them mature bucks) that never showed an interest in the surrounding does. The only action I saw was young bucks pestering does or other bucks half-heartedly chasing does only to drop off them and walk away. I know the rut happened but no where near me.

i saw 2 chases last yr 3 days apart in the same stand, i was running 4 cams all yr and noticed that there was a 5 day span on 3 dif farms that there was alot of chasing nov 10-15 had 12 bucks on cam chasing does had a few other days as well all the way till jan 12 where i have a buck chasing 2 does. I shot a 7 point chasing a doe opening weekend of ML he was on cam 5 times the night before chasing this doe. i just wont the cold temps again saw alot more deer then i ever have in the 15 yrs befor.

I saw some in December but nothing prior... But your those lunar folks this looks better...According to Alsheimers Lunar Calendar, major seeking behavior should pick up around October 30th and continue until around November 6th, when major chasing should begin. This wild rutting frenzy will continue until around November 14th when the tending phase should be beginning and the lockdown period will follow shortly.

I hunted three different farms last year, all around ten miles apart.I saw no rutting behavior on two farms, including a very low number of scrapes and rubs. The other farm had the most intense rut I've ever witnessed.I saw a ton of bucks harrasing does from the third week in october through the third week in december.Very weird for sure.

I saw the typical rutting activity on trail cams last year.

Unfortunately, the weather at the times I could be out there wasn't ideal for daytime rutting activity which resulted in less than "normal" sightings for me.

That may hold so where Alshemimer is...NY state I think..but those date don't work in South Central TN or Central North Al.

Last year was bad for me too. Not that I hunted as much as I wanted, but I went on opening days and on a lot of days I thought were cold enough, or, had some significance in weather or moon phase.

I hope this year is better. I plan to spend more time out there too.

Last couple years was off rut wise for many areas of the Country, matter of fact we haven't really had a Textbook rut since 06, as 07 is when we had the year of tragedies, drought, record heat, late freeze, no mast, EHD, etc.
Last yr the rut was the worst since 07 however. Our Summer here has been pretty normal so far outside a little bit late arrival, and Mast crops look really good so far.
Im hoping things get back to somewhat normal this yr myself.

Unfortunately, Alsheimer's "Lunar Breeding Calendars" are a complete sham, at least for ACTUAL breeding dates. They have been thoroughly and completely disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Now that doesn't mean he might not be on to something for DAYLIGHT CHASING but not actual breeding.

I was waiting for you to post this Winchester!

I agree that I have not seen, IN DAYLIGHT WHILE HUNTING, a "classic" rut since the '07 EHD outbreak. And I have no idea why. However, most years, trail-cameras show the rut is occurring every year, right on time. With two exceptions. The year of the EHD outbreak I observed on trail-camera what appeared to be a very late rut, about 2-3 weeks delayed from normal. Last year I believe many areas experienced a very early rut, as in 2-3 weeks early. The late rut in '07 with the drought, late spring freeze, lack of acorn crop, and widespread illness makes sense, as research has shown that unhealthy does will enter estrus later than healthy does from the same social group (same breeding date genetics). However, the very early rut last year is, so far, unexplainable.

Now whether we see another weird rut this year, I have no idea. I know the northwestern part of TN has not had the rainfall it did last summer, which has reduced natural browse below what was produced last summer (the best summer browse production year I've ever witnessed).

Rutting and turkeys gobbling seems to happen pretty much the same for me every single year.

Only weather effects chasing and gobbling.

Cool to cold days with minimal wind equals better movement in during day for deer.

Warm, sunny, pretty spring days equal better gobbling for turkeys.

Best times to kill a good buck cruising or chasing does in my part of Giles county and in North Alabama are from Thanksgiving until December 10th, with December 7th my favorite day to hunt for rutting bucks.

Best time to call up a gobbler in my areas is last week of April. Most hens are setting.
