Just wondering what you all think about Weaver Grand Slam rings? They are steel. Anybody use these?
meat hunter said:Warne Maximas are steel and can be had for a very good price. Warnes will not mark your scope either. The vertical clamping makes leveling the scope ten times easier.

Youd be surprised how much trouble that folks have sighting in is actually caused by that rear base. I've seen calibers like 300wby, RUMs, Lazzeroni and heavy cals actually chew their way through the groove in that rear ring!!! Even the standard, basic Weaver setup has a much larger bearing surface and more clamping force (ring to base) than the rear ring/base on the standard Leup. style.
The Dual Dovetail and the QRW (which is Leupolds own Weaver style) ARE great stuff and I use QRWs on my mzlloadrs and have DDs on several of my rifles. I also have Warnes, Talley, DNZ and am about to order Conetrol for my latest project, but for the money the simple Weaver Grand Slam Series (which is all steel) is very good stuff! If you install it correctly with blue loctite on the first pass, you will likely have a lifetime setup.
Good luck.
