I have a low 1448. Need to be able to get up shoal. Its a well made boat but it is riveted. I figure a 15 to 30
Hp jet would suffice to run up current at a decent pace. Definitely need a tiller handle motor. My question is can a a riveted boat take the pressure?

A rivet boat with a 20hp jet is ok. Especially if you build a 2 stroke motor. Go higher in hp or weight and you will prefer an all weld. I have run a 1448 and 1548 rivet boat for years with a 20hp jet 2 stroke. A 4 stroke will be ok, if you can shift the weight around somewhat. Your gonna want a 20 in transom and still need some adjustment. A 15 in transom will not work.

Just for fun we pulled a 20 hp jet off and put a tiller 60/40 jet on a 1448 rivet boat. It was a blast and super fast but it was not gonna survive the torque and stress.
