(Sorry for the long read) I started hunting my Grandfathers land when I was 14 years old. Year after year I would get pictures of decent young 8 pointers the occasional 10. For 10 years I've had a mixture of just not seeing anything and letting small bucks walk. Never harvesting a single deer. Well this year started off amazing with having the two biggest bucks I've had on camera coming in like clock work right up to velvet season. Wouldn't you know it they absolutely ghosted me! I tried different approaches but nothing seemed to work to get in front of one of them. I left the property alone for three weeks and decided last Sunday I'd give it a try and just sit in one of my archery lock ons. Of course nothing went right I was way late had to run two dogs off before getting up in the stand. But I sat down got my muzzleloader pulled up and looked up to see a deer coming off the hill through the woods. Long story short it was the 12 pt buck I'd been after who ended up 80yds broadside and double lunged. The 10 years with hundreds of sits, lots of money and hard work finally paid off. My grandfather passed away in 2023 so I wasn't able to show him the deer but I know he was watching.

congrats! sure was a long time coming! I'm glad you saw it through, and I'm sure your grandpa is too!

Good for you! My grandad got me into hunting and I miss him dearly! Congrats!

It is bitter sweet when you find success after the person you wanted to share it with most has passed. I shot my biggest buck the week after I buried my father. I cried in the stand and thanked the Lord for the lessons he taught me about life and the peace of the spirit of the woods.
