NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is now soliciting comments on the 2024-25 hunting season dates and regulations. The comment period is open Dec. 15 through Jan. 15, 2024.

This is an opportunity for the public to share ideas and opinions about hunting seasons and regulations with TWRA. Public comments will be considered by Agency staff and may be included in proposed regulations. Comments can be made by accessing the website: https://www.tn.gov/content/tn/twra/wildlife-survey.html.

A preview of the Agency's recommendations for the hunting seasons will be made at the March meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission and the final recommendations made at the April meeting.

thanks, I have been writing and submitting suggestions since 2018 before cwd hit, and twra is steadily trying to eliminate deer in west tennesseee. Deer numbers have been on a steady decline since 2018. I have written twra and commissioners with no response.

Does TWRA solely set the regulations or do they have someone else to answer to? I'm wondering if, instead of your comments being ignored by TWRA, you can go over their heads maybe to your state reps/senators and get the changes you want to see implemented? Especially with regards to the deer slaughter in West TN. I haven't lived in TN in over 7 years so I don't remember how all that works there.

We've had to do that here in SC to get Sunday hunting allowed on WMA. It was always allowed on private, but SCDNR loves nothing more than to screw public land hunters by taking away 50% of the average working man's opportunity to hunt. So we lobbied our legislators and a law was passed over the Summer to direct SCDNR to allow Sunday hunting on public lands.

Commissioners ........I can't express my thoughts here without being expelled.

That's good advice. TWRA knows about the thermal road poaching ring that's been installed at my home and they haven't done a dang thing about udating their rules so they could at least get it out of the street. Im speaking to state reps and the U.S Fish and Wildlife from now on.

I honestly hate that you are having to deal with that foolishness.

Out of curiosity, what change in rules do you propose to make your situation better?

Can you elaborate on what is going on?

They will be no changes made without biological backup said the twra😂 well that went over like a turd in the punch bowl, as we all seen when they dropped the buck limit to please the horn porn crowd
This isn't entirely true. There is a biological basis for herd health being impacted by out of ratio deer populations. (Especially considering we are killing 60% bucks/40% does in many counties).

Regardless of that, the horn porn crowd buys a lot of licenses. There SHOULD be a compromise here.

HP wants one buck limit. BID (Brown is Down) wanted to stay at 3.

We end up with 2. Not sure there was a better way to handle that one.

Sure there was, stop taking away opportunities from law abiding license buyers. No there wasnt a biological reason behind it look up the sats on how many actually were killing three, it done nothing but take opportunity away from prople who dont have the does to kill for meat , if they want any deer to hunt.

Gave some input on a couple things for this time. I have done so many many times in the past, including on the definition of youth for the juvenile hunt back when it used to be 10-16 year old allowed to hunt those hunts nearly 20 years ago. My oldest daughter hunted regular rifle season as an 8 and 9 year old because she didn't qualify for the juvenile hunts at that time. Bringing up points can make a difference. The following year they changed that reg.

We will see.

It was never about reducing the number of people who killed 3 bucks. It was about reducing the number that killed 2. And making hunters more selective with that 2nd buck.

Up until CWD that appeared to be working as intended.

You may want to kill 3 bucks for meat, but your neighbor may want to harvest a mature buck for antlers. You both have very different goals that don't overlap. Both people's wishes have to be considered. Hence, we are at the 2 buck limit.
