I always enjoy looking thru this category but I never post anything - thought I would put this out for comments. I found this years ago running a trap line up in Cumberland County near the Caney Fork River. It's carved stone, no idea of age or origin. I always figured maybe it washed down from an old home site or something but who knows. Looks good on the shelf next to my other finds - any ideas? Thanks, D.

No idea if its Native American or not. It still has clay or some kind of residue in the carvings, I don't think its paint because when I initially started cleaning it up it started washing out in places. I left it as is after that. I posted it on findmall and got one hit so far suggesting maybe a Native American toy and suggested I take it to a museum but that's probably just a guess too. I was pretty far out in the boondocks when I found it so I don't think it's too recent but again, who knows. It's been a head scratcher for everyone I've showed it to so far.

Beautiful artifact!

Skinny down on Aldeer.com is the Professor of Archaeology at Troy University. He digs this kind of stuff up for a living and teaches about it. Hot him up for some data on it.
