I used a turkey vest for many years, and preferred the ones with a "strapped" seat where you could lean back without having a big tree to lean on. However, once Wes P convinced me to try one of the turkey lounger type seats (https://www.walmart.com/ip/MAC-Sports-T ... /171930807) , my vest went on the shelf. I carry it with a claw sling on the opposite shoulder of my slung shotgun while I am chasing birds. It balances things out, and, IMO, added little if any weight to the total system. And, it is so much more comfortable for long sits that it is worth the trouble.

For calls and other gear, I use a fanny pack with shoulder straps I got from sportsman guide. I like that system since it has some straps on top of the pack that let me secure a jacket or raincoat to keep from heating up running up and down the ridges. I do not see the model I have in their system, but this one is very close to it and has some added features that I like. I may have to check one of these out this spring: https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product ... ?a=2166015

While the system looks cumbersome, the actual weight is very close, and the increased comfort of the turkey chair and not having a hot vest when the weather heats up makes the deal a lot better for me. I don't see myself going back to a vest.

I use the turkey lounger seat at times as well but the original carrying strap broke. How did you attach the claw sling?

Was looking at this one. Not sure If it is overkill or not. How heavy would that thing be with the legs on it walking for hours.

Where I hunt, I typically set up on field edges. There are no trees to lean against. I always use a vest with a kickstand.

I have (and like) the Cabelas Tactical Tatr 2. My only complaint is that it's a little too big for me. I can't strap it around my torso very tight and it moves a lot when I'm sitting down.

Last year I picked up the Alpz Outdoors Grand Slam vest. I think the straps are better th an the Tactical Tatr 2. I can tighten it up more, and I like the wan it unsnaps. It's hard to explain, but you have the option of taking it off a different way than the Tactical Tatr 2. On the other hand, the cushion on the Grand Slam is worse than the Tactical Tatr 2. For a vest this expensive, the cushion is lacking.

If you're interested in the Grand Slam, you can buy them cheaper at the NWTF convention if you're going.

I agree with TNReb, I have/had both the tactical and the alps. currently using the alps, and will not own one without a kickstand anymore. There are just WAY to many times I need the stand due to lacking areas to set up tree wise where I hunt. The alps fits me much better and has some additional small features I really like better the the cabelas version. Also agree with TN that the seat is not as comfortable for sure on the alps but it doesnt "suck". I think I got the alps for $100 out the door at the NWTF show last year in bottomland. TO me it seems lighter as well and the kickstand has "feet" on the bottom of the stakes which makes it not sink as much into soft soil like the cabelas one.

You and TNReb just need to fatten up and the tactical tatr will fit just fine. :D

Just saw this new one from Ol Tom modeled after the Bob Dixon vests. Very tempting...
