Typically every night I here these dogs in the same place and saw several during deer season, there i have a general idea of where they like to hang out. My question is what is the best way to approach the situation. Would i be better to try and hunt them or put a few traps out? Ill be grateful for any advise but these things are costing me money by killing my cattle( 7 calfs over the past 2 years) and other wildlife

I do both myself but i feel trapping yields better results. Hit them from every angle until they are exterminated is my plan.

Around cattle with all the fence crossings, nothing is more effective than SNARES. We've killed almost 30 this way this year. Setting a bunch more tomorrow in anticipation to this snow and cold. Hoping to add 10 or more this week.

How about a little show & tell or how to video of your snare set-ups. Please!

If you are looking to just have a little fun then calling them is it but if you are trying thin them out then trapping is the way to go. Find a good local trapper who knows how to catch them because there is a art to the way to trap them. You just dont throw a trap down and catch them. Calling barely puts a dent in them number wise and after a few times they get wise to it and are hard to fool IMHO.

I'll see if I can. It might be a week or so but I'll try.

I've ran them off of the 100 acres I deer hunt, for the most part. I killed 6 between turkey and bow season and they haven't been on camera much at all. I still find scat occasionally, but all I've done is pushed them off to the neighboring properties. I'll get with one of the landowners there and kill a few this time of year too.

It's a never ending battle. They'll stay off for a few years, then I'll have to put the hammer back down on them. It usually costs me a turkey season.

Sadly, trappers didn't catch a single 'yote from my place this winter. I expected them to catch a bunch, considering how many I get on camera and hear howling.

BSK where abouts are you located? We've snared 8 this week alone.

Humphreys County, on the west side near the Duck River Unit of the Wildlife Refuge. Our trapper has had a lot of success other areas, but not on us this year. Only caught coons, possums, and the neighbor's dog!

I'd love some more info as well on how you are doing it. Type of snares, locations of snares, any other helpful info. I have worked with foot hold traps and thought about snares. They just seem like they would be so much less maintenance.

Saw a black yote yesterday at 5PM at I-40 and Lenior City exit, standing by the west ramp watching cars go by, wanted to shoot him real bad, but didnt. I have been woken up 3 times lately at the house.

This is why I'm running snares this week! Cow killers. Hung another 150 today for a landowner. This place is over ran with dogs, expecting a big week.

I have killed 5 in the last 2 weeks by catching them in open fields digging around right after daylight and calling them with a FoxPro. I get too winded and shaky when hunting alone to use a mouth call. Called in 2 others that I missed. The last couple weeks have been prime because of the weather and breeding season.

Good success rate there by calling!

I have not talked to them this season but there are 2 trappers that are friends of mine who trapped on a farm in the Whitehouse area and have caught over 50 yotes in the last 2 years on just one 500 acre farm. It is a coyote travel highway where they are constantly passing through. They caught 5 black yotes last year alone. They mainly use dirthole sets for the most part to catch their yotes.

Yea we'd loved to be dirt hole setting too, but frozen ground and traps make it difficult. Would of upped our numbers even more.
